As I was walking through the Itaewon neighborhood in Seoul I passed a restaurant that proudly serves Chinese food that is just like the Chinese food you can get in America.
On Saturday the Wall Street Journal reported that America-based P.F. Chang’s has opened a restaurant in Shanghai. The article says the Chinese outpost calls itself an American bistro and does not pretend to serve Chinese food. One diner said American television shows such as The Big Bang Theory often depict people eating takeout Chinese food and was curious about how it tasted.
The article says P.F. Chang’s is not the first foreign restaurant to open in a country that served as its inspiration. Domino’s Pizza has 11 stores in Italy and Korea-based Paris Baguette, which is everywhere here in Seoul, now has 2 stores in Paris. (I haven’t tried Paris Baguette yet, but Seoul has some first-rate independent bakeries).
