The ban on travel from Europe the President announced last night will not apply to American citizens, although flights to the U.S. will be limited to select airports where travelers will undergo health screenings. Upon returning to the U.S. travelers will have to self-quarantine for 14 days.
The State Department has issued a level 3 global travel advisory, advising U.S. citizens to reconsider travel abroad.
Based on this information, I’m still planning to travel. My departure will not be for another 3 weeks. The situation could improve, and if it deteriorates I can change my mind. I will be in Stockholm for 2 months. At this point it’s impossible to know whether the risks of the disease over that period of time will be greater there or in the U.S. Self-quarantine upon return will not be a problem.
The biggest risk is contracting the virus just before returning to the U.S. Where would I go if I was not allowed back into the country?
I’ll keep monitoring the situation and adjust my plans as necessary.
