If I had not kept this dated receipt I would have forgotten exactly when I started snowboarding. In January 1996 I took a lesson at Devil’s Head in Wisconsin, and after a couple of weeks of renting equipment I bought a Santa Cruz board, Burton bindings, and a pair of Airwalk boots.

A couple of years later I learned how to surf, and then I screwed up enough courage to skateboard, and then I started wakeboarding. A quarter century of boardriding.
