Boulder, Colorado

The Pearl Street Mall and downtown Boulder, Colo. In reaction to the success of suburban shopping malls during the 1970’s, many cities eliminated car traffic and parking on their downtown main streets and opened them to pedestrians. The idea failed in places like Chicago’s State Street where the mall was ripped out and the cars are back, but in Boulder it worked and the mall remains popular today.
